I’ve lived here on the farm at Redoaks Hill for over twenty years now, and one of the greatest privileges of life in this beautiful rural setting has been watching the seasons unfold year after year.
Living surrounded by open countryside and woodland means that I notice the smallest changes in nature. These quiet shifts arrive gently, a slightly softer afternoon light, birds returning to the hedgerows, or the first fresh green appearing along the edges of the fields. Even after all these years, those small signs of the changing seasons never lose their magic.
For me as a PHOTOGRAPHER, this time of year is especially inspiring.
March is always a turning point. After the stillness of winter, the light begins to change. In the late afternoon it stretches further across the fields, warmer and softer, catching the edges of the trees and hedgerows. The countryside takes on a golden glow that feels full of promise, and it’s a beautiful moment to photograph families and children outdoors.
One of the things I love most about working in such a rural location is how closely photography and nature come together. The changing landscape constantly offers new backdrops and colours, and every season brings something unique to the images I create.
Not far from the farm, the elegant pathways of Bridge End GardensHOME | Bridge End Garden | Victorian Garden | Castle Street | Saffron Walden | Essex | UK offer another beautiful setting that I love returning to. These historic gardens always feel timeless — peaceful, romantic and full of character.
During my recent visit to the gardens, the first real signs of spring were already appearing. Delicate Snowdrops were scattered beneath the trees, their tiny white blooms gently nodding in the breeze. Nearby, bright Daffodils had begun to open, bringing joyful splashes of yellow across the pathways and borders.
As a photographer, Saffron Walden Photographer | Newborn | Family I Marta Cayzer II found it especially beautiful to see these flowers together. The soft white SNOWDROPS beside the cheerful yellow DAFFODILS felt like a perfect symbol of the changing season and winter quietly giving way to spring. Moments like this are often the ones that inspire my photographs the most.
Capturing children and families surrounded by these early spring flowers feels incredibly special. The colours are gentle, natural and full of light, creating images that feel fresh, soft and timeless.
And soon another magical transformation will happen here on the farm. As we move into April, the woodlands surrounding Redoaks Hill will slowly turn into a carpet of BLUEBELLS, one of the most enchanting and fleeting natural displays of the year. For a few short weeks the forest floor becomes a sea of delicate blue, creating an almost dreamlike setting for photographs.https://share.google/XEgiADO538USQo0kG
It is moments like these that remind me how fortunate I am to live and work in such a beautiful rural place. The countryside offers endless inspiration, and every spring brings new colours, new light and new moments waiting to be captured.
Below I’m sharing a few recent photographs taken between the the peaceful gardens and the woodland paths, a small celebration of spring as it begins to unfold.
